What do used process equipment products - like a pressure leaf filter - have to do with saving jobs? Find out here:

This is not a good time for industry. Making ends meet has rarely been tougher for processors, builders, manufacturers, and ilk. Surprisingly, this follows a golden age for American industry. Industrial companies were actually price setters for most of the past ten years, which is a rarity in and of itself. However, those days are past and the nation must adjust to the current period as if it were the new normal.

The construction industry has really taken a beating during the great recession. The US market has seen construction prices plummet from its 2008 peak, but costs to the companies in the industry have not fallen at a commensurate level. Many companies are being forced to take on projects that pay below a break-even point just to stay in business.

Until the economy turns around, construction companies will not be able to force these prices back up (at least not without massive shutdowns that lead to supply decreasing). If they are being honest with themselves, they probably realize that this decade's peak prices were probably a bit inflated from where they should have been anyways. As such, the only way to gain profitability would be to lower costs. This is difficult as most companies are already working with a skeleton crew and overhead costs are what they are.

The solution lies in finding cheaper equipment. For large scale companies, process equipment is a huge expense. For example, a pressure leaf filter can run well into the tens of thousands of dollars. That is a large expense to simply remove particles from your product. But, a used pressure leaf filter - one that is reliable and proven from past use - can be had at a fraction of the price. In this economy, how does buying new make sense?

The advantages of going with used products over new products at this point in time are numerous. First of all, used products are typically just as reliable - if not more so - than new units. They are proven performers, otherwise they would be junked and not resold (assuming that you trust the retailer). Second, used products offer multiple savings over new products. There are the obvious lower initial costs, but do not forget that - because the equipment is already aged - there are also lower depreciation costs. While depreciation is an intangible cost that is not actually realized until the product is resold or junked, it is still an accounting cost and factors into the overhead for each and every item/project produced. Third, used process equipment has obviously been around longer so we have a better understanding of it. Much of it is simpler than the complicated machinery of modern equipment and is easier to fix if it were to break down.

If a construction or processing company is to survive through the Great Recession, they have to think smarter in addition to working harder. You can't save your way to prosperity, but you can save your way to survival.

Even the best-shaped set of teeth can be let down by a dull yellow or greyish tone. Today, teeth whitening procedures are quick, affordable and suitable for almost everyone. As an easy way to add a bit of sparkle to your smile its no wonder that teeth whitening has become one of the most popular cosmetic dentistry treatments available.

Whiter Teeth For All

Many people have their teeth whitened to boost their self-esteem and give themselves a boost of confidence that allows them to smile with pride. As smoking is one of the most common causes of stained teeth many people who quit the habit treat themselves to whitening treatment - the money saved from a month or two of not smoking easily covers it. Other have their teeth whitened for a special day, such as a wedding or a milestone birthday. But because anyone over the age of 16 that isn't pregnant or lactating can have the treatment all types of people have their teeth whitened for a variety of different reasons. Whatever the reason the outcome is always the same - glittering white teeth and total satisfaction.

Safe And Simple

The procedure, though it may vary from clinic to clinic, is very simple. A light or laser reacts with a bleaching gel that is spread on the teeth leaving them up to six shades lighter. The chemical reaction is completely safe - no enamel is damaged and treatment only takes one hour so is ideal for those with busy lifestyles. On the contrary, some over the counter teeth whitening kits can take months and can't hope to offer the same level of improvement that dedicated equipment can. While the whitening effects of treatment aren't permanent because the teeth can be re-stained by things like tea or coffee many clinics offer top-up treatments at a discounted price.

While the teeth whitening process does not do any damage to existing teeth modifications such as crowns or dentures it also can't improve the whiteness of them. Talking to your dentist about the options available, such as replacing fittings with similar coloured counterparts, will allow you to come up with a suitable plan.

What Are You Waiting For?

If you've always considered getting your teeth whitened there really is nothing to stop you now. Affordable, safe, quick and with instantly recognisable results, teeth whitening is a painless and non-invasive way to give you a quick and noticeable touch of glamour and self esteem. The only question you'll end up asking is why you waited so long.

'Invisible' Invisalign Braces

Invisalign braces are an innovative orthodontic treatment, which provide the perfect solution for people that want straighter teeth without worrying about the way they will look if they have braces fitted.

What is the Invisalign system?

The Invisalign system involves a series of clear aligners, which are designed to move the teeth gradually over the course of time. If you want to have the treatment, your dentist will create a mould of your teeth using a putty-like substance and they will also take photographs, which will then be sent away to a dental laboratory. The technicians will make up a series of aligners based on the measurements and contours of your mouth.

Each aligner should be worn for two weeks and then replaced with the next aligner in the series. The aligners are shaped to encourage the teeth to move and by the time you get to the last aligner, your teeth should look great.

How do the braces work?

The aligners work by gently moving the teeth in the right direction; you need to wear the braces for around 22 hours each day and each aligner should be worn for two weeks before you go on to the next one in the series. You will need to visit your dentist on a regular basis to make sure the aligners are working effectively.

How long does treatment take?

Everyone is different and treatment time will vary according to the complexity of your individual situation. As a general rule, treatment should take around twelve months.

Who can benefit from Invisalign braces?

Invisalign braces can be used to treat lots of different orthodontic problems, including:

• Crowded teeth
• Gaps between the teeth
• Crooked teeth
• Twisted teeth
• Poorly positioned teeth
• Problems with the bite (the relationship between the upper and lower sets of teeth)

Invisalign braces can treat many people but patients with more severe problems may be advised to choose an alternative treatment. An example of the amazing results produced by Invisalign braces is shown below:

What are the advantages of Invisalign braces?

Invisalign has many advantages; the most obvious benefit is the appearance of the braces; Invisalign braces are also known as invisible braces because they are invisible to other people. The discreet appearance of the aligners means you can get the smile you always wanted without anyone else even knowing you've got braces.

Other advantages of this treatment include increased comfort and less pain than traditional braces; the aligners generate much less friction than normal braces and the teeth are encouraged to move slowly and gently. Many people also like the fact that you can take the aligners out; this enables you to eat properly and clean your teeth thoroughly; this also helps to keep your teeth and gums healthy.

How much does the treatment cost?

Invisalign is one of the more expensive orthodontic treatments; as with all cosmetic dental treatments, prices vary considerably depending on where you choose to go for your treatment and which dentist you choose (dentists with expertise in the field and those with years of experience will charge more than those with less experience). As a general guide, the treatment usually costs betweenn £3,000 and £6,000.

Benefits of using a Garden Basket

Many people find it hard to believe that a garden basket can make their life so much better. But guess what? This is true on a number of different levels. Once you realize the benefits of using a garden basket there is a good chance that you will rely on one (or more) of these day in and day out.

Above all else, a garden basket can make it very easy to harvest your garden. All you have to do is take your basket with you to your plants and begin to fill it up with fresh vegetables. As you can imagine, this is much easier than making many trips to and from your house or using a make-shift item such as a plastic bag.

How do you usually wash your vegetables? Many people hate this part of the growing and picking process because it is far from fun. Fortunately, with the right garden basket this is never again going to be a problem. You can leave your vegetables in the basket, and quickly enough wash them down with water. This helps to keep you organized, while ensuring that your vegetables are clean.

If you have more than one type of vegetable growing in your garden you may want to keep them separate after picking. With more than one garden basket this is easier than ever before. For instance, you can have one basket for tomatoes, one for zucchini, one for green peppers, etc. This may not sound like a big deal, but it can make harvesting your crop much more enjoyable.

Now that you are aware of what garden baskets have to offer, you may want to think about buying at least one of these. Soon enough you will look back and wonder how you ever did without.

Components of Web Pages

Set Sail with a Solid Masthead

In web design, the term "masthead" refers to the top part of your web page. Historically a sailing term used to describe the tall vertical pole supporting the sails of a ship, its use in publishing holds a similar meaning. In publishing, a strong masthead can introduce a web page brilliantly, and trap users' attention in order to persuade them to continue reading. Mastheads can consist of images, brand logos and text. Mastheads are used to attract the attention of site visitors and clue them into what's to be found on that page and on your general site. Mastheads are usually designed with software like FreeHand, Photoshop and Illustrator, but using a free websites builder can be a nice time and money-saver. Your masthead's potential is huge, so don't underestimate it. Spend time designing this component to maximize its impact. Remember what the goal is here: to quickly tell visitors what your site is about, and why they should continue reading.

The Site's Content

The heart of any good website, content can be presented in a number of ways. The goal here is to make your content as readable as possible. The best content is arranged in a way that visitors don't have to think - it presents itself to them seamlessly in a way that naturally flows. There are several ways to achieve this. It's general practice to use two or three columns of text in your page layout. You might want to have one wider column for your key text, and narrower columns for additional content or advertising. Also, be sure to select a font that is easy on the eyes of your readers. Decorative, whimsical fonts are sometimes appropriate for branding but are extremely uncomfortable when presented in large sections of text. A good rule of thumb is to stay with what you know: Times New Roman, Verdana, Arial, Georgia and Tahoma. Alignment is also important. Unless you're writing your content in a foreign language that doesn't lend itself to Western reading patterns, always align your text on the left. Justified alignment might look best in print, but web typography is a whole other ballgame. Also, try to keep your lines limited to 10-12 words per line. This makes large sections of text easier to approach, and more likely to be read. Adjust column width and font size to achieve this balance.

Steering Visitors Around Your Site

The ease with which visitors can find information on your site is a vital component to any site's success. This is what navigation components are for. Navigation can include a menu bar on your homepage, hypertext in your content, and any other linkable content that quickly points visitors to relevant sections of your website. Many novice web designers fail on this task, and create convoluted sites with difficult-to-interpret navigation. It is extremely off-putting for a visitor to feel lost or confused inside your website, and the intent of good navigation is to allow users to quickly and easily locate the precise information they are looking for. The first step is to keep everything clear and organized. Use short and descriptive labels for menu buttons and links, letting users know exactly what they can expect to find on each indicated page. It is good practice to always include a link to your home page on every sub-page of your site, to orient your users.

On-Site Advertising

There are certain spots on web pages where ads are usually placed. These include the space next to or above the masthead, below the main title, and inside a side column. Keep in mind most people don't like ads. Especially irrelevant and obnoxious advertising that commands attention away from your visitors. Google AdWords' text-based ads work best, for their minimal approach and keyword-based generation. Arrange your ad space strategically, have it clearly labeled as an area for relevant commercial for your readers. Stay away from loud, colorful or animated ads that will disturb your visitors.

Footers

The space at the very bottom of a web page is where you'll find a footer. A recent trend in web design has been marked by the emergence of creative footers, containing more than just the standard legal information and copyright. You can use your footer as a strategic navigational device, to direct users toward specific sections of your website. Corporate websites often provide directions and contact information in a footer. You can also use your footer as a place for creative expression, to leave visitors with a lasting impression of your unique offerings. Placing a touch of free website design onto a page's footer can contribute to a site's branding and identity. Designshak.com placed site navigation, layout and color selection and more in their footer. On Volll.com, there's a floating octopus and a colorful umbrella make up the content of the homepage's footer. Fill up this space with something beneficial to your site's overall purpose.

And that's about it! Now that you've been introduced to the basic components of a web page, knowing how to make a website shouldn't be such a foreign. Have fun identifying these components on websites you visit from now on, and watch out for their organization and design. One of the best ways to improve your own site's web design is to pay attention to what works for others (and what doesn't!). Good luck!

Brighten your smile with teeth whitening

Teeth whitening is a cosmetic dental procedure which can vastly enhance the overall appearance of teeth by improving colour and brightness by removing stains and discolouration using a subtle bleaching process.

Who should have teeth whitening treatment?

Teeth whitening can greatly improve the smile and appearance of anyone who has stained or discoloured teeth. The final results can boost your confidence and enhance your self esteem beyond measure.

Are there different types of teeth whitening?

Yes, there are two main types of tooth whitening generally available from dental practitioners.

There is in-house treatment conducted by the dentist which combines the use of a high impulse laser with bleaching in the form of a whitening gel which quickens up the process of restoring teeth to their original pearly whiteness. However, there are also home teeth whitening kits available from dentists. The dentist will create tailor made bleaching trays from an exact impression made from your teeth to greatly enhance the effectiveness of the stain removal process. It is important to discuss which treatment is most suitable for you with your dentist before deciding which course to take.

What are the advantages and benefits of teeth whitening?

There are many advantages and benefits to having teeth whitening treatment. It is far less costly than alternatives like veneer treatment and will not have to be regularly undertaken provided a good routine of dental care and oral hygiene is maintained. Despite a small increase in tooth sensitivity during the treatment the procedure is completely painless and safe. The finished results can also be truly fantastic, restoring a fresh gleam to your smile and boosting your self esteem and self confidence.

How long does teeth whitening last?

Provided you maintain a good dental and oral hygiene routine your teeth whitening can be permanent with annual maintenance sessions to ensure the whiteness and brightness of your teeth is retained. Your dentist can advise you on the best ways to maintain the results of the treatment after the procedure. .

How are the teeth whitened and how long does it take?

The length and method of teeth whitening treatment depends on the kind of procedure you choose.

If you opt for an in house teeth whitening will begin with your dentist taking a pre-treatment photographic record of your teeth. They will then apply a protective gel to shield your gums from the bleach and you will be given goggles to protect your eyes from the laser. The whitening gel will then be applied and a handheld laser will be worked over the gel for an hour to stimulate the bleaching process. The whitening gel is then removed and a photographic record made of the results. This is all achieved in one session but a home whitening kit is often combined to ensure the maintenance of the in house teeth whitening procedure.

Home teeth whitening kits vary in method and cost. Generally, the procedure consists of your dentist taking a cast of your teeth and creating a tailor made bleaching tray. These trays are then filled with the whitening gel which comes supplied as part of the kit either already inserted into the trays by your dentist or in syringes ready for self-application into the trays. The trays are usually to be worn each day for around 90 minutes for a period of two weeks. After this period your dentist will perform a deep cleansing session and assess the results.

What are the costs involved?

The cost will vary depending on the teeth whitening treatment you choose. In house treatment costs more, but is completed in a single session. Home teeth whitening kits vary in cost and the procedure takes approximately two weeks to complete. It is very important you discuss your treatment and the costs involved in-depth with your dentist prior to undergoing the procedure.

Walk over. Coins in. Eat and drink. It's so easy nowadays, and something we take completely for granted, but vending machines are the result of an innovation dating back to the Ancient Greeks, more than 2,000 years ago.

Vending machines were rolled out in their first form in 215 BC, when the Greek mathematician and engineer Hero of Alexandria invented a machine to vend holy water in Egyptian temples, a meeting place for all. His own version of an office vending machine accepted a coin and then dispensed a fixed amount of holy water. When the coin was deposited, it fell upon a pan attached to a lever. The lever opened up a valve which let some water flow out. The pan continued to tilt with the weight of the coin until it fell off, at which point a counter-weight would snap the lever back up and turn off the valve.

These early office vending machine had to wait until the Industrial Age before they got their next upgrade. The first modern coin-operated vending machines appeared in London in the early 1880's dispensing postcards. English publisher and bookshop owner, Richard Carlisle invented a vending machine for selling books, around the same time.

In 1888, the first vending machine appeared in the US selling Tutti-Fruiti gum on train platforms. Over the next 100 years they offered everything from cigars and postcards to stamps and sodas. In Philadelphia, a completely coin-operated restaurant called Horn & Hardart was opened in 1902 and stayed open until 1962.

With office workers requiring quick access to competitively priced products, the office vending machines industry has seen a great deal of growth over the last ten years. Offering businesses and entrepreneurs a way to start businesses which can grow quickly, fulfilling basic needs conveniently. Drinks and food vending machines continue to be the most lucrative and stable in the marketplace.

Times change and of course nowadays health and safety is also key. In order to prevent injuries or death from people tipping or striking, most office vending machines come equipped with spirals to hold products and contain lasers near the access door at the bottom. If a purchased item does not break the laser beam when falling, the spirals will automatically turn, usually three times to ensure that a product will fall. If this still does not occur, the customer will be asked to make another selection or will be refunded their money.

6 Business Uses for a Blog

When I mention to a business client that their new website can have a blog (like in Blogging for your Business), I'm often asked, "what would I use a blog for?" Most of us have seen how individuals might use a blog as an online journal of their lives - a place to vent and talk about what's important to them - but how does a business use a blog to actually benefit the business?

Here, in no particular order, are a variety of ways that a business can make great use of a blog format.

1. Answer Questions

If you ever receive questions about your business or industry, either direct or implied, you can answer those questions in your blog. You simply start by posting the question, leaving out who asked it of course, and then answer it.

This is particularly effective since most people end up asking themselves the same questions, so it's likely that you will be providing valuable information to many people. In fact, you should fully expect that eventually people will be using a search engine like Google and will type in your exact question and your blog post, with the answer, will come up as a result.

If you have an FAQ system or page, you can discuss the same questions and topics - the format of the blog post is simply more casual and conversational, while an FAQ entry should generally be more formal and to the point.

2. Client Spotlight

If you just completed a large or interesting project, or simply have something nice or compelling to say regarding a specific client, use your blog to share. It's a great way to illustrate how you might handle a specific project or even a challenge. Be sure to get the client's permission before you post your entry.

3. Reviews

If you read an article in the newspaper or some other online source that you think your customers should read, post a link to it in a blog entry and explain why you think it's relevant to your clients. Conversely, you could also use this method to respond to negative press your business or industry may receive online.

You can also review a new product or service.

4. Teach

Regularly take a topic or issue from your industry and teach your clients all about it. This method involves a little more work on your part, but is eventually even more rewarding and compelling than others.

First, do your homework. Make sure that everything you state is correct and verifiable. Use statistics if you can and cite your source

Second, create your blog entry in a Word file and see how long it is. Break it up into smaller sections if its lengthy and label them Part I, Part II, and so on. You now have not only several blog posts, but a series that will entice readers to come back for the next part.

5. Lists

A particularly common technique is to make lists. You can list anything you want, anything that might be interesting to your clients, and talk about each list item for a moment before moving on to the next. An easy topic might be Do's and Dont's for your clients as I'm sure nearly every business has common pitfalls that their clients struggle with, as well as things every new client should be doing.

Do not feel forced to come up with a specific number, like "Top Ten", as that will simply frustrate you when you can only think of 8 items. It's your blog, so list 5 or 50 if you want to.

6. Events & Conferences

Use your blog to talk about and announce upcoming events and conferences, if it's something you think some of your clients may want to attend or be interested in. If it's a conference for vendors like yourself, then talk about it afterward and share some of the things you learned that might prove valuable to your customers.

Regardless of which method you use, always make sure that you re-read your entry for correct grammar, spelling, and factual information. Also, whenever possible, make sure that you're using your targeted keywords. If you can, refer to older blog entries or articles you may have written and link back to them (that's referred to as deep linking).

Of course, the beauty of a blog is that there are no rules or regulations. Your posts can be as long or as short as you want, and on any schedule you like (though the more regular you post, the better). Furthermore, there's no reason why you can't utilize each and every one of the techniques above, and anything else you might find or invent. Your blog doesn't have to be the same each and every week, as long as the overall topic remains the same - your business and your industry. Continue to write interesting and helpful information and your blog will become a great sales tool for you and your website.

Orthodontics is the dental speciality that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of problems with the relationship between the structures in the mouth; this includes the way the upper and lower sets of teeth fit together (also known as the occlusion or bite) and the positioning of the jaw joint. Problems with the occlusion are often caused by missing teeth, gaps between the teeth and poorly positioned teeth (for example crooked and twisted teeth); problems with the jaw joint, such as poor positing or misalignment can also cause orthodontic issues.

Orthodontic problems are very common; a perfect set of straight teeth is very rare and a large proportion of people have an orthodontic complaint of some kind. The most common examples of orthodontic issues include crooked teeth, gaps between the teeth and crowded teeth.

Orthodontics = teenagers?

Most people associate orthodontic problems with teenagers because it is very common for teenage children to wear braces; however, an increasing number of adults are now seeking treatment for orthodontic problems.

Almost all orthodontic patients are treated with braces; braces are fitted to the teeth to encourage them to move gradually over the course of time. Traditionally, fixed metal braces were used; however, nowadays there is a huge range of orthodontic treatments on offer and some of the newer treatments are very discreet.

The discreet route

Many people worry about having braces because they are concerned about their appearance; braces are not attractive to look at and can affect people's self-confidence. Now, there are lots of different types of braces in the market and some of them, such as Inivisalign invisible braces, are almost invisible to other people. There are also braces that you can wear on the other side of the teeth, known as lingual braces; these braces are attached to the back of the teeth, meaning that nobody can see them.

Some patients who need orthodontic treatment also worry that the treatment will take a long time and they will be forced to wear braces for ages; however, these days, this is not the case and some treatments can produce results in just a matter of weeks. Examples of quick-acting treatments include Damon braces and the Six Month Smile braces.
